Canada Passes Food Allergen and Gluten Labelling Regulations
Health Canada passed new regulations that will require mandatory declaration of major food allergens, gluten sources and sulphites in foods on February 16, 2011 that will come into effect August 4, 2012. Diabetes and Celiac Disease Research Study
The prevalence of celiac disease in people with Type 1 diabetes is much higher (2-12%) than the prevalence of celiac disease in the general population (1%). A research study investigating the screening practices in North America is being conducted by Suzanne Simpson, RD Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University; Shelley Case, Case Nutrition Consulting and Nancee Jaffe, Masters Nutrition Student.
