The prevalence of celiac disease in people with Type 1 diabetes is much higher (2-12%) than the prevalence of celiac disease in the general population (1%). A research study investigating the screening practices in North America is being conducted by Suzanne Simpson, RD Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University; Shelley Case, Case Nutrition Consulting and Nancee Jaffe, Masters Nutrition Student.
